Get High School Diploma

Get high school diploma is different from regular diploma. Almost all of the students who failed in a regular setting can apply to earn a diploma by passing the Get exam series. There is a requirement of at least passing with 60 percent in each exam subject. Students have to learn about each subject and passing in each subject is essential. There are different opinions on the GED and regular diploma. As it may be the case that a small number of employers consider it as inferior to a regular diploma.

While students who are going to get admission in colleges or universities for higher studies, normally the colleges accept students with a GED though universities might have differing policies. Some colleges who are requiring some specialized subjects with high marks might ignore students with GED. Since the testing series has a series of subjects, therefore equal consideration in put on each subject. Students completing this program will not be going to have specialization in any particular subject unless they have regular diploma.

In this entire situation, this is not discouraging to acquire a general equivalency diploma because it is designed to facilitate people who failed to get diploma and want to show that their qualification is equivalent to high school. About 98 percent of colleges and universities accept a general equivalency diploma as equivalent.

The cost of GED diploma is much less. It starts from to and its exam could be given from anywhere. It inquires about knowledge on skills like reading, writing and subjects like mathematics, science, and social studies. All these subjects are equally important but a student with GED diploma is often said to be non-specialized in these subjects. At the end, it is apparent that GED is highly recommended for people who have not time to join adult schools or to study online for their diploma.

Making It Through College Admissions

Applying to universities for your higher education can be one of the most stressful but exciting times of your life. There are so many opportunities available and so many directions in which a student can go.

A huge part of the process is choosing the places that you could see yourself attending, but one must also remember that it is the department of admissions’ choices whether or not you are able to get in. Placing your future in the lives of other individuals can be hard, especially when you are unsure what they are looking for in potential students.

Working your hardest during your secondary school years, as well as preparing adequately for admissions and following all the necessary steps, is the best way to have a chance at attending your dream campus. Preparation for college starts well before you start sending in applications to different campuses.

Those that want to make it into a good school should start preparing and doing their best in school toward the beginning of their high school career. Though it is not necessary for you to know exactly where you want to end up at college during your freshman year, it will be necessary for almost every school for you to maintain a high grade point average and become involved in different activities.

Because universities have become so competitive, especially Ivy League or private schools, it is not only just important to have high marks during your educational career; you must also be sure to become involved in clubs and groups and really go the extra mile to set yourself apart from other applicants. Find clubs that you are interested in and join!

This can be a great way to meet new and many friends and to spend time doing something that you already enjoy! Most after-school groups only meet once a week or month, you will most likely be able to take part in some really fun activities, and you will be able to place this extracurricular on your applications.

Though any club or sport will be a great addition to your record, try to become involved in the more prestigious or exclusive ones available like National Honor Society. Because these are invite-only or require some kind of acceptance process, they will improve your credibility as a student.

Becoming involved and maintaining a high GPA are both great ways to help your apps to stand out amongst admissions boards, but no university will allow students in without some kind of standardized test go. Depending upon which places you are sending applications, you will have to take either the SAT or GRE, sometimes both.

Both of these exams are fairly similar and test the ability of the student to perform the necessary math, English, reading, and/or science problems. The score that you get will help give indications where you lie along the learning and knowledge curve compared to all of the other students in the United States that take the exams as well.

Make sure that you start preparing early for these tests; they are not something that can just be studied the night before. Though these are general and include all of the different types of problems that you have experienced throughout your high school career, they test critical thinking and will probably be more difficult than others you may have experienced.

You may find that you have to take the exam multiple times to get the score that you hoped for, and that is perfectly acceptable. Admissions will usually accept the highest or more recent score, so you can choose which one will show up on your apps.

Before going into the test, it is wise to check the general admissions statistics for the campuses that you are interested in. This will give you a better idea of the type of scores that you should aim for and how much you will have to study and prepare to get them.

When going through the admissions process, be sure that you accurately complete all of the necessary sections. Most colleges will request that you also include an essay about yourself or answering some pre-pared question.

Oftentimes, this essay can be the “make it or break it” for many students that are right on the edge of being accepted or rejected, so do your best to really express yourself and share some interesting and bright points. As long as you adequately prepare and do your best in school and on your exams, you should be able to make it to the campus that you have always dreamed of!

College Preparatory Math – Day 2

CPM is based on research that say initial learning of a mathematical concept is best supported by discussions within cooperative learning groups. As a second day of learning this is stressed once again. Several concerns have been voiced about this approach as naive onlooker may say, “what is the teachers role if the students are doing all the work?”

In the second day of training it was stressed that the teacher is not a passive onlooker but an active guide in the learning process. In fact, a teacher may find teaching under the CPM curriculum requires much more energy, room control, and content knowledge as students will often solve problem with different approaches. There is no question that CPM has improved state test scores for participating schools, this has been shown over and over again. The real question that an instructor would want to know is will the student and parents buy into the system.

Of course with every change in curriculum students that struggle will use the uncomfortable change as an excuse for poor performance.

This will intern cause the parents to have a problem with the curriculum. It was evident that this can be avoided by an instructor that is first well versed in CPM and its history, and second by a compassionate teacher will to walk the extra mile to help save a grade.

CPM seems to be a possible solution to those people that complain that all their student does all day in school is watch movies. It is interesting that parents seem oblivious to staring at a TV screen during school hours, but are reluctant to believe in a curriculum that forces their child to problem solve.

It was also evident that it is important to use manipulatives such as Algebra tiles and calculators to facilitate the learning system.

Algebra tiles really support the knowledge of Algebra and promotes critical thinking. Again, I expect the use of tiles to be uncomfortable at first but as the students become proficient in their use they will become a great tool.

College Preparatory Math Day 4

Peer tutoring is nothing new in the educational system. In the late 1990′s the Third International Mathematics and Science Study came out with a report that basically said the United States was failing at instructing mathematics. Where the US has text book based instruction, other more mathematically successful countries were instructing with project based our group based instruction. What is more important is that these students of math will never use mathematics by themselves when they become productive citizens of our country. These students will have to be able to communicate mathematics with colleagues, peers, clients, and committees. Putting your students in a row and telling them what to learn does very little to help them with this communication of mathematics.

When a student learns in a group environment, they can bounce several idea off of their group and therefore develop problem solving skills.

Teachers in the group environment should be a guide not a lecturer. There are of course times when a teacher must direct teach but much more can be accomplished indirectly. In an age when parents and administrators are calling for individualized instruction, in a group learning environment teachers can walk around and quickly asses which students may or may not be struggling.

Group environments also help build confidence when students are asked to present their material to the class. What better skill is their to learn then to work hard with a group of fellow workers and then to be able to present that material to a larger group. This is definitely a valuable skill to have in the workplace no matter what field a student is interested in.

Group work is important in high school most simply because it teaches valuable life skills.

Students that can work in groups and present to groups will be more productive members of society.

A Vocational School May Be The Start Of Your Career

The mainstream ideas that are put out there for high school students and young adults are that you need to enroll in college courses in order to obtain a successful career. While that is true for some, it is not the standard for all. If you didn’t enjoy school or you would prefer not to spend so many years in school, there are alternatives. Vocational schools have come a long way in the last couple of decades and can now offer a wide variety of programs at top-notch levels.

There are hundreds of thousands of students each year who enroll in traditional, four-year universities with the hopes of graduating and finding careers that allow them to make a bit of money and utilize the things they learned in school. The students who relied on student loans to pay their bills during their time in school will soon learn that repaying the money with interest is not a very fun experience. Vocational school is a fraction of the cost of traditional colleges and provides more hands-on training.

In this economy, there are many openings for those people who are motivated to earn any sort of educational certificate. Although many corporations have been forced to downsize and cut jobs, there are still many fields that are in need of trained professionals. Many service-based industries that deal with the necessities are in need of new hires. Air conditioning repair, mechanics, and landscape design professionals all achieve success, though they only receive a technical/vocational certificate instead of a college degree.

Most vocational schools are set up to allow their students to graduate in a matter of months, not years. This means that you can get started earning a living way before your peers even get halfway through their college degrees. Vocational schools are also much less expensive than most universities. Comparatively, you can get more for your money in terms of practicality and time spent.

Even if you did not do that well in high school, there are options for you. Vocational school isn’t interested in your grades on an English test or whether you scored very high on the standardized SAT exam. It is more concerned with your ability to learn a skill set and demonstrate your knowledge in a hands-on arena.

There are many exciting careers that you can move into after completing vocational training. For instance, if you are mechanically inclined and work with your hands, there are vocational programs that help you learn how to build and service engines and vehicles. If you are willing to take the risk, you could end up with your own business if you wish to take on all of the start-up fees and take the chance that your efforts will pay off.

Search for vocational schools online in order to see the different options available to you. There is most likely a vocational school with a certificate program you are interested in nearby your current residence. In the past, vocational schools have been viewed as a lesser alternative to a traditional collegiate education. There is no reason that someone with a vocational education cannot achieve just as much, if not more than a college graduate.

A Fun Version of Orienteering for Your Schoolyard

Orienteering is a sport with strictly regulated rules, in which, as described by Barbara Johnson, Technical Director of the Alberta Orienteering Association, “Participants…with the use of a map and compass, complete a course consisting of a series of control points set in the terrain, in the shortest possible time.”

However, Johnson believes that orienteering can also be more simply defined as an exercise in which participants move themselves between points using a map and (possibly) a compass. She also believes that the latter definition might be more practical for schools and PE programs.

Here’s one way to introduce orienteering to your class. It’s an outdoor activity that will give your students practice in using a map-a skill that often eludes many people into adulthood. And it’s fun for your less-athletic students, who can often make up for their lack of running ability by deducing the most efficient route to the control points.

Setup
Establish a number of control points on your school grounds. They should be near reference points of some sort: for example, a big oak tree, the corner of a school building, a basketball standard, etc.

Make a map that shows each of these control points. If you’re satisfied with the map, you could laminate a number of copies so you will have them for future use.

Take a photograph of a face and make a number photocopies-there should be at least as many copies as you have teams. Faces can often be copied from People Magazine, Sports Illustrated, fashion publications, or for more academic content, a history textbook. Cut the copies of the face into as many sections as you have control points.

Leave one of the sections of “face” at each of the control points. For example, if you have seven teams, leave seven copies of the “chin” section at the same point. You can leave the sections in small containers, such as the metal or cardboard gift boxes you can purchase at dollar stores.

How to Play
Divide your class into pairs or small teams and explain how to orient the map and what any symbols on the map represent.

Then, standing in the center of the playing area, start the contest. The players’ job will be to use the map to find each of the control points. Once there, they take out the paper section and then proceed to the next control point.

Once every control point has been found, the players run back to the starting point and re-assemble the sections to make them into a face again. Once they have identified the person, they are finished.

Conclusion
Once your students learn to orienteer in your schoolyard, you can advance to nearby parks or conservation areas, where there’s a greater challenge.

Your students will love this version of orienteering. It takes some extra work and preparation by the teacher, but it will get your students outside, moving and thinking, getting fit and hopefully learning to enjoy exercise. It’s definitely worth a try.
